  • A detailed bulletin( program) will guide you through the service.

Christian Education

We know that the spiritual growth of our children is paramount to our mission. We offer classes in Christian Education from pre-school up. Our dedicated, energetic teachers strive to teach knowledge of the Bible with applications for today. We also attempt to teach Christian values in a safe and caring environment. We use a variety of methods to teach, including stories, crafts, music, drama and discussions.

Our children play an integral role in the life of the entire Church. This past year the children and youth played an active role in Esther Fest where the Sunday school made crafts and then performed a skit for the congregation. At Christmas time we invited community children to join in our special children’s service / production of ‘The Mouse Christmas’ and even though the weather forced a short notice postponement the church was full! At Easter time the children hosted a ‘Walk Through Holy Week’ that has become a tradition at Trinity-St. Andrew's for all ages. The White Gift service was followed by the annual Christmas luncheon and party, which included a visit from the white bearded fellow himself! To end this past year, the Christian Education Committee organized the Brighton community picnic children’s games, where youth from the various community churches attended for the fun.

We also provide a well-equipped nursery in a large, bright, attractive room, staffed by a trained and caring Nursery Attendant, and volunteer assistants.

Pastoral Care

We also know that looking after the needs of our members and adherents is also paramount to success in our mission. This past year our Associate Minister, Nadine Mahood arranged for the matching of 10 new In-Home Pastoral Visitors for shut-ins and held training sessions to assist them in learning what their boundaries were. Follow-up interviews with the visitors and shut-ins showed that all were enjoying the visits.

Our Telephone Ministry, also done by Nadine, continues with about 25 people presently on the calling list. Last December ,with some additional help, 10 of these people who wanted to receive Communion were visited at home and were served Communion. Sometimes a simple card is all that is needed to remind our members that we love them and God loves them and our Committee customarily sends cards to those who were ill or had lost family members. At Christmas and Easter, volunteers continue to visit and deliver cards and small gifts or plants to shut-ins and people in Applefest and Maplewood Manor and cards are mailed to those in residential facilities outside of Brighton.

Our Pastoral Care teams continue to visit weekly at Applefest Lodge and Maplewood Manor and assist the minister during their monthly services at these Residences. In December Communion was served at Applefest Lodge and Maplewood Manor. Nadine Mahood continues to conduct Memorial Services for family members and fellow residents who were mourning the lost of loved ones. She also continues to volunteer as Chaplain at Maplewood Manor for 3 hours every Thursday afternoon.

In keeping with our Ministry to Seniors, a “Celebrate The Saints” Sunday was held on June 24th. All seniors who receive ministry through Trinity-St. Andrew’s and the Pastoral Care teams were invited to request their favourite hymns in advance. Volunteers provided transportation to and from the church for those who needed it and a luncheon was held in their honour after the service.

The Tape Ministry makes and delivers an average of seven tapes per week for shut-ins, one of which is used by a number of residents at Applefest Lodge

Outreach

The Community Outreach Committee exists to identify and coordinate opportunities to support Trinity-St. Andrew's commitment to Outreach. Ongoing activities include supporting the local food bank, liaising with the Clothing Depot, overseeing the Benevolent Fund and supporting Northumberland Youth for Christ in their ministries in Eastern Northumberland Secondary School as well as the Beacon Youth Centre.

The Action Team, under the umbrella of the Outreach Committee, coordinates the After School Club. The Action Team also plans and fundraises to meet the commitment Trinity-St. Andrew’s has made to the Beacon Youth Centre in Brighton. The Centre is a significant ministry in our community reaching youth who are in real need of positive role models and an accepting environment.

Our congregation continues to be involved in Ecumenical projects such as Applefest Ecumenical Service, Lenten Luncheon series, Clothing Depot, Christmas Hampers, Youth Centre, Tutoring, After School program and Reading Buddies at Brighton Public School. The Benevolent Fund has been established to help community families in need. The Christmas Hampers are assembled at our church hall with contributions coming from the other churches and Service Clubs (i.e. Lions Club) in the area.

Global Outreach

Mission & Service FundThe work of The United Church of Canada across the country and around the world is funded by the Mission and Service (M&S) Fund. Members and supporters of the United Church know that it takes money to put their faith into action. Trinity-St. Andrew's has always been a strong supporter of this fund.

The United Church's Mission and Service Fund works with partners in Canada and internationally to ensure that needs are assessed quickly and accurately, that responses are immediate, and that ongoing support helps prevent problems from recurring.

The Mission and Service Fund, is the unique way we as United Church witness to God's love, whether it be with overseas partners, in Canadian outreach, in hospital or university chaplaincies, in supporting small congregations, or in assisting intern ministers. It is not really possible to compare the M&S Fund to any charity-it is much bigger, more encompassing than any of these. It is the church.

The M&S Fund represents our collective way to be God's presence in the world—to be the church, to love and serve, to seek justice, to live with respect in creation. It gives us a collective voice in advocating change, justice, and peace, whether through the Canadian government or in work with our ecumenical partners. The M&S Fund ensures that we are participating together in all of this work and more.
